Restaurant # 49 - Jungle Jim's - July 20th 2012

I didn't go to supper with the guys, but they had mentioned going to Jungle Jim's. I'm not sure if that's where they went, I'll confirm it later.

Jungle Jim's it was.

Restaurant #48 - Sirocco - July 13th 2012

We (Pierre, Darren, Erick, Stephan, Mike and I) went to Sirocco on Weldon St. It's a new Mediterranian fusion restaurant that's been open for about a month. It used to be an Italian restaurant that had a Mafia room (we didn't eat in the room, but saw it and it looked pretty fun), but no clue if the Mafia room is still there. Anyways, we ordered a few different items on the menu, Stephan got an appetizer, which was good, Darren and Pierre got kabobs, Stephan and I got the seafood paella, Mike got shrimp fettucini and I think Erick got the crusted Mediterranian seabream. We all found that the food was tasty and the portions were fine. Pierre and Stephan also had carrot cake for dessert and Pierre rated it upper-middle of the pack (I think he said either 6.2 or 6.7, not quite sure) and Stephan said it was great.

Restaurant #47 - China House - June 19th 2012

We took advantage of Darren being on vacation to go to a restaurant he doesn't like. We (Erick, Pierre, Stephan and I) went to China House, a Chinese buffet. The food was good, typical Chinese buffet. A lot of the chicken dishes were covered in sauce, or were oily, but I guess that's to be expected in a Chinese buffet. There was no food that was really amazing or that would make this buffet better than others, but it must have been somewhat reasonable as all of us ate more than we normally would and some of us were uncomfortably full... And, I love the picture of Erick and Stephan pretending to be best friends, but also the one with Pierre, because I finally got one of him with a big smile :)

Restaurant #46 Cheers - June 22nd 2012

We went to Cheers. There was Erick, Darren, Stephan and I, and sadly, no one knew our names and the place didn't look like the Cheers on TV. But, there were a bunch of TVs, so we got to watch the Euro Cup and eat fried food. It was typical pub food, and sadly, the fries weren't that great. We all seemed to end up drowning our fries in something to make them taste a bit better. I choose lots of vinegar and a bit of salt.

Restaurant #45 - Savana's - June 8th 2012

We went to a relatively new restaurant in town, Savana's on St George, almost beside Red Satay (here is where I would like to point out that Savana's civic address is 203 St George St and Red Satay's is 207 St George St, clearly indicating that 205 St George St is between the two places.. and when you look on google maps, and yes it is an old picture of street view, but we all know that Oh My Fry is now Red Satay, you can clearly see that there is a door for 205 St George St, which might just be the stairs to get upstairs, but it still exists, which would be why I wrote "almost beside" and not "beside" :-) - end of rant). The restaurant had been open for a little over a month when we visited. There was Erick, Stephane, Mikella, Darren and I. The restaurant advertise's itself as a creole-jamaican-african restaurant (I think I got that right, I'm going by memory). The concept seems pretty fun, and it's nice that there's something exotic. Now, what it came down to is, there are 4 different main plates, Darren and Erick ordered two of them, which were exactly the same, but the sauces were different. There were also meals, which Stephane and I had the same one, couscous with ginger chicken and vegetables and Mikella had the chicken skewer. The food was good, and the bowls that Stephane and I got were huge and full of food, but overall, I was expecting more spices or something a bit more exotic. The other thing that bugged me was that it took over an hour to get our food, and we were the only people in the restaurant. The waiter/chef did bring out some hummus and bread, which was actually very delicious. I don't know how the food actually compares to "real" African food, so I don't know if it would be considered authentic or not, but I enjoyed my meal :)

Restaurant #44 - Kwong's - June 1st 2012

Thank you Stéphan for the review:

Kwong’s is a small unassuming Chinese take-out in Riverview. Their small room has four tables so Darren, Pierre and Stephan decided to try it for a sit-down supper. While waiting for their meal to arrive, they could see a steady stream of customers coming in for take-out, a promising sign. Pierre and Stephan had a # 3 combo while Darren went for the # 4.  The food turned out to be very good, a unanimous thumb up. Everyone agreed the chicken chow mein was the best they ever tasted. The chicken balls (# 3) and spare ribs (# 4) were also very good, as were the egg rolls. The only disappointment was the chicken fried rice, as there was basically no chicken in it. It was good, but more like a plain fried rice than a chicken fried rice as advertised. All in all though, a good experience.

Restaurant #43 - Swiss Chalet

We went to Swiss Chalet, the food was good. JP was down from Alberta, so it was fun to hear all his stories and everything.
