Restaurant #86 - Tak's Thai Kitchen - April 26th 2013

Tonight we're trying out another new restaurant, Tak's. It's a Thai restaruant, and from what we've been hearing from people, it's supposed to be good. :) yay!

Quickly googling Tak's + Moncton, I found out that it is owned by a couple that moved the restaurant from Pictou, NS. So it's not like it's a couple that are completely starting out from scratch, they seem to have some experience in the restaurant business. Now my hopes are that much higher for this place. *fingers crossed*

This place was DELICIOUS! I really enjoyed the food, the decor, the waitresses are dressed up in Thai costumes. The food was very good, nice and spicy, and they even have a note in the menu that their spicyness is based on the Thai scale, not the North American, so mild is going to be hotter than what you expect.

The waitress was telling us that they don't tone down the spices on meals because they want to make the food as it is supposed to taste in Thailand. This place was delicious and I can't wait to go again.

Restaurant #85 - St. Louis Wings and Ribs - April 19th 2013

Darren, Stephan, Pierre, Stephane and I went to St. Louis Wings and Ribs.

This is a new restaurant in town, so we (I) were looking forward to trying it out. The place seems pretty big, and there were lots of people in the restaurant. There was also a really large number of waitresses that were working.

Everyone got the Friday special except Pierre (he got a burger). The special was a 1/2 lb of wings and a half rack of ribs (or maybe a 1/4 rack if places serve that..) with fries. You got to choose what flavour you wanted your ribs and your wings and if you wanted back or side ribs (turns out side ribs have more fat). They have 3 flavours for the ribs and a bunch for the wings.

I found the food good, we all really enjoyed the ribs, but as for the flavour of my wings (chili lime), I didn't like that. They just seemed like they were dipped in oil mixed with chili flakes, so definitely not something that I had enjoyed.

Pierre liked his burger too.

Restaurant #84 - Le Petit Cavalier - April 12th 2013

There was Stephan, Stephane, Darren and I.

It was my first time ever eating here. I hear radio announcements all the time, but it always made me think that it was going to be really snooty and very expensive. I was somewhat wrong. First off, I love the old house that the restaurant was in. They have their dining room set up in a few rooms of the house (we could see three of them) and they all looked nice. We went at 5 pm, and the place was empty. There was one couple that arrived while we were eating, besides that, the place was empty (I am imagining that it must fill up later in the evening).

I was also surprised about the menu. It is a French restaurant, so they have some different dishes, but the prices are not over the top (I was expecting something a little bit less expensive than the Windjammer, but most meals were about 20-30$ range, which quite surprised me). They have a Table d'Hôte with a few choices for appetizers and mains, Darren and Stephane both took that. Stephan and I ordered off the menu. All of us except Stephane got the mushroom soup as a starter. This was one of the best mushroom soups I have ever tasted. It wasn't a cream of mushroom soup, but more of a mushroom puree in a broth. It was unexpected and the mushrooms (and other ingredients, I think it had truffles in it also) mixed together very well.

I had bacon wrapped chicken stuffed with goat cheese as my main. I really enjoyed the vegetables that came with the chicken, but I found the chicken a bit bland. It might have just been the way that it was rolled up, it felt like I didn't have enough bacon/goat cheese to put together with the chicken, so I got a bunch of just chicken pieces, and since there wasn't a sauce or anything, it tasted somewhat dry.

They also gave us a little snack at the beginning, compliments of the chef (fish, so I didn't eat it) and a granité between our starter and main course.

Overall, I did enjoy the restaurant and was very happy to see that it wasn't what I was expecting at all.

Restaurant #83 - The Bent Spoon - April 5th 2013

We went to the Bent Spoon for our Good Friday supper. There was Stephane, Stephan, Mike, Pierre and Darren.

The restaurant is the renovated restaurant that is in the Colonial Inn on Main St. I have to admit that I find that they did a superb job at renovating the place, it actually looks quite nice inside and less of a dive as the place used to.

However, when it came to the food, I found it ok (had a Buffalo burger), which I think mostly everyone else did too. Darren didn't enjoy his food at all (stuffed chicken breast and soup as a starter) and rates this place as one of his bottom 5 restaurants. A few plates had a garnish of tomato and broccoli, it looked mushy and disgusting and people didn't really taste it.

Overall, if you're stuck and have nowhere else to go, go to a fast food :) lol.

Restaurant # 82 - Catch 22 Lobster Bar - March 29th 2013

I think this was the week that the guys went to Catch 22 Lobster Bar. Besides that, I heard nothing else about this supper.
