100 Restaurant Recap

Well, it's been a few months that we finished the challenge. The week before it was finished, I sent out an e-mail to the main core to see what they thought of the challenge. There were 10 questions, and here is the combined Q&A from everyone.

The biggest question is where did we eat after 100 different restaurants! We went to the food court at the mall, and we each ate at a different place.

Here is a questionnaire that I asked everyone to fill out about the challenge. I've put everyone in order of the person that went to the most restaurants to the least (number in brackets). Now, these numbers have an error percentage, I've just been counting them out on a piece of paper. Some restaurants I didn't write who was all there, I don't always remember who was taking the picture (or I might have forgot to count that person), so this is by no means exact.

Stephane (85):

Restaurant Questionnaire :
1. List your top 5 favorite restaurants of the challenge :
Not necessarily in order:
Little Louie's (Great food and service), Windjammer (Fun experience), Maverick's (Ribs!!!), Cafe Maelstrom (The last mousse), Acadie Donair and Pizza (Because of the friendly staff).
2. List your 5 least favorite restaurants of the challenge:
Not necessarily in order:
Wharf Village (Disappointed after recommendation), Mooser's Pub (Too tacky), Viet Bistro (I don't like being watched while I eat), McSweeney's Dinner Theater (Not a fan of hyper-energetic antics), Savana's (Took too long).
3. At what restaurant were you most pleasantly surprised by the food?
Igloo. It had the most tender steak I've eaten. I'm not certain how they did it though. It might have been because the cut was fat. I do not know.
4. Was there a restaurant that you felt the food wasn’t as good as you expected it to be (a restaurant that didn’t live up to your expectations)?
An's Café and Restaurant. I expected a restaurant Carbonara to be better than one made in a wood cabin. Perhaps I underestimated the wood cabin cooks?
5. What restaurant would you like to visit again to try a different meal?
Little Louie's.
6. What was your favorite meal of all the different ones you’ve tried at the different restaurants?
Hard to say. I'm not good at choosing a favorite for anything. I'll say Little Louie's: Good food, Good service, Good price (A generous gift from Stephan), and most important, Good friends.
7. What was your least favorite meal?
I'll say McSweeney's Dinner Theater. Not because of the food (which was ok), but because I felt uncomfortable the whole time.
8. Was there a restaurant that you wished we had visited but didn’t?
I wish "The German Restaurant" (Old Bavarian?) had been close enough to make the cut. But apart from that, I don't know of any other restaurant I would want to visit.
9. What restaurant did you miss that you wish you had attended?
Taj Mahal
10. Where to do you want to go eat next week?
Foodcourt.

Village Warf
Mooser’s

Le Petit Cavalie/Tak’s

Pastalli/Bistro 33

Probably my meal at Tak’s

The gross burnt club from Mooser’s

8. Was there a restaurant that you wished we had visited but didn’t?
The one in Shediac that opened during the summer.. (sorry, I still haven't tracked down the name)

9. What restaurant did you miss that you wish you had attended?
Dolma Foods Sushi Bar, Chef’s Bistro

10. Where to do you want to go eat next week?
Chinese!

Some of the bests:
Best Chinese: House of Lam
Best Pics: Darren and Stephan at Garden Breeze, doing their "olden days" picture and Pierre at China House
Best Thaï Dish: Jenny Bowl (Red Satay) or Combo A (Vien Dong)
Best Soup: Mushroom Soup at  Le Petit Cavalier
Best Picture taking moment: Trying to get Mike to run across the street for one of the restaurants on Main St
Best sushi: Pink Sushi
Best Burger: Barnyard BBBQ (oh, how I wish their restaurant name actually had that extra B)
Best conversation: Sitting at St. Hubert and having all the boys tell me how boys' minds work.
Best chandelier: The flower looking ones at Saigon Thaï
Worst Lighting: Fisherman's paradise
Funniest restaurant story: (especially because it didn't happen to me) Erick finding a staple in his orange in his beer.
Worst live entertainment: The poor guy at overtime who was signing to two tables (including ours) and was about 2 feet away from our table.

Pierre (46):

To start off with, given that I only went to  49% of the restaurants, my results will be somewhat skewed, since I missed a lot of other people’s favourites and least favourites. Also, the lists of favourite and least favourite restaurants are in chronological order.

1. List your top 5 favorite restaurants of the challenge : Red Satay, Chef’s Bistro, Thanh’s Palace, Pisces, Pizza Mill.

1.a Honourable mentions: Maverick’s, Kwong’s, Windjammer, Five Bridges, Acadie Donair and Pizza, Petit Paris, Egg Roll King.

2. List your 5 least favorite restaurants of the challenge: Mexicali Rosa’s, Wharf Village, Sun Sun, Tran’s Place, Top Chicken.

2.a Dishonourable mentions: Vien Dong, Casino.

3. At what restaurant were you most pleasantly surprised by the food? Thanh’s Palace (I had zero expectations, and I really liked it).

4. Was there a restaurant that you felt the food wasn’t as good as you expected it to be (a restaurant that didn’t live up to your expectations)? Isac’s Korean Cuisine (based on several people raving about it; it wasn’t horrible or anything, but it paled in comparison to Acadie Pizza and Donair).

5. What restaurant would you like to visit again to try a different meal? Chef’s Bistro or Petit Paris.

6. What was your favorite meal of all the different ones you’ve tried at the different restaurants? Mainly because it’s the only meal I distinctly remember from my top five, I’m going to go with the pizza at Pizza Mill.

7. What was your least favorite meal? Whatever pathetic excuse for “Mexican” food I had at Mexicali Rosa’s.

8. Was there a restaurant that you wished we had visited but didn’t? Wild Rose Inn.

9. What restaurant did you miss that you wish you had attended? Several, but Little Louis jumps out as the most obvious one, based on everyone else’s affection for it.

10. Where to do you want to go eat next week? Well, next week I still won’t be in Moncton because of the year-end softball tournament, so I think I might wind up getting some Panago pizza, since I’m too far to get some from The Pizza Mill.

Best photos (of just the people in this email list, to keep things manageable):

Darren – Vien Dong.

Legs – Pretty much every single goddamn picture.

Reebs – China House, obviously.

Erick – China House, obviously.

Amy – Not that easy, since she managed to keep herself out of most pictures, but I’ll say it’s a tie between Mooser’s and Calactus.

Pierre – Trick question, as there is no such thing as a good picture of me.

Restaurant #100 - The Egg Roll King - August 23rd 2013

Today it Stephane's birthday! Yay Stephane! We also decided that it would be a great day to end the challenge, so we didn't go eat the past 2 Fridays as to not have our challenge finish on some other restaurant with not everyone there.

We've finally made it to the end. It's a bit hard to believe, but we're here.

I'll let you know how the last one tastes later on :)

We came, we ate, we took pictures, we left. And the challenge is finally finished.

The food was fine, everyone agreed that the egg rolls were quite good, so it seems like the Egg roll King rightfully deserves it's name.

Reataurant #99 - Zen Garden - August 2nd 2013

For number 99 we went to Zen Garden on Mountain Road.

The place is small, maybe about 6-8 tables and it's all vegetarian food. The ordering system is like at the All-You-Can-Eat Sushi, where you select what you want from a list of items and write how many you would like beside the dish. I like that.

The food was delicious. The only not-so-good thing is that they don't bring out everything all at once, but when it's ready, so not everyone is eating at the same time, and you don't get all your items at the same time. The waitress was also extremely nice, gave us some samples of tea that she made and some raspberries that she had picked that morning in Hillsborough.

Everyone enjoyed what we ordered, though I can't remember the name of most of the items. I ordered a bit too much though, but just because I wanted to try a lot of food to get a good sampling. I didn't feel stuffed at the end, but close to it.

We all had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend it for a relaxed-dinner-type thing.

These last few pictures are completely unrelated. They are for Stéphan. Remember when you went on vacation and you weren't going to be able to see your tree flowering? Well, this is what it looked like, except that these pictures were taken about 10 minutes after a torrential rain shower. Sorry about that... and just so you know, it looked way better before the rain shower. :)

Restaurant #98 - McSweeney's Dinner Theatre - July 26th 2013

We're going to Dinner Theatre!

Well, enough time has passed that I'm ready to talk about Dinner Theatre. There are two things that you must take into consideration when going to this Dinner Theatre, plus a preface. The preface is that this is the only dinner theatre I've been to, so I know that this doesn't speak for all of them as I'm sure there are better ones and there are worse ones. Now, the acting is mediocre and the food is too. After you get over these two things, and don't expect too much out of either, it's actually pretty fun. The play was a murder-mystery that happens at the end of a summer camp. I do have to give a shout out to the actresses and actors for staying in character for (most) of the whole evening. I was quite impressed actually, because there is no way I would have stayed as perky as the yoga-tae bo-super lunge girl did. The food was fine, I did like the dessert though, it was a throw-back to the camp theme, smore brownies. We had the choice of chicken, pork or fish for the main. Everyone agreed that it tasted good, but it's not something that I would call exceptional or that I would tell people that they had to go to a dinner theatre because the food is amazing.

Overall, I will admit that I did have a relatively good time. I loved the mash-up that included Salt-n-Peppa, it was the best moment of the whole play for me. I guess that it's just good to go there with low expectations and you won't be too disappointed.
